Itinerant Music Programme
Places in this programme are limited as the Ministry allocates a set number of hours to fund our school. If you get a place in our Itinerant Music Programme, you must be aware of the commitment to attend regularly.
There is often a waiting list for these places, and students will lose their place in the programme if they are not committed.
In 2026, we prioritise our itinerant music lessons by:
1) Taking NCEA L1, L2 or L3 Music
2) Contributing to our school music groups - Big Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Year 7 Band
3) Year 10 Music Learners
4) Year 9 Music learners
HIREAGE OF INSTRUMENTS:
In 2026, Whangaparāoa College will not be hiring instruments to learners in the first instance. We are encouraging whānau to hire instruments through ABI for this school year.

Expectations for Senior Music Students (NCEA Level 1, 2, and 3 Music)
-Instrumental Tuition: All senior music learners are expected to take regular private lessons on their primary instrument, either through the school’s itinerant programme or with an external tutor.
-Ensemble Participation: Learners are expected to actively contribute to the wider school music community by joining at least one school band or ensemble. This involvement is essential, as it directly supports and develops the performance and ensemble skills required for your music courses.
If you have any questions about this, please see a member of the Music Department or email [email protected].
