Chinese is taught from year 7 to 9 at Whangaparāoa College. The four skills focused on at each year level are listening, reading, writing and speaking. By the end of each Year 7 course, learners are able to have a basic greeting with local Chinese. By years 8 to 9 the aim is to have learners capable of having basic conversations and writing 30-50 Chinese Characters. Learners will be given chances to experience Chinese history and cultures such as making their own Chinese dumplings and spring rolls, wearing Chinese traditional costumes, practicing Chinese Kung fu and experiencing Chinese painting and calligraphy. |
