My name is Ian MacLeod, I am married to Lis, we have 2 boys who went to Whangaparaoa Primary and are now in Years 7 and 9 at the college. I work in Albany and Lis is a fitness instructor at Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre.
Originally from Scotland we settled in New Zealand in 2003 after living and working in a number of different countries, including 5 years in Greece and 3 years in the Middle East. We have found our place in the world here in Whangaparaoa, we got our kiwi passports as soon as we were eligible and this is home for us now.
We spend most of our free time outdoors doing all manner of outdoor activities and adventure sports. I am a bit of a water man and spend most of my time in or on the water or thinking about being on the water.
I am a chartered professional engineer and a member of the Institute of Directors. I have business experience of small and large business and recently changed roles from Head of Engineering at Babcock New Zealand where I managed the engineering team that kept the New Zealand Navy fleet operating and am now the General Manager of Parkland Products, a New Zealand company with 50 staff and a turnover of $20m per annum.
I have experience reporting to and serving on boards. I was a board member at Babcock New Zealand and have served on boards for professional associations, industry associations, the New Zealand Marine industry training organisation and the AUT School of Engineering industry advisory council.
From my time with the Marine Industry Training Organisation and AUT, I have an understanding of the modern education system and the balance that needs to be struck between the competing pressures of governmental compliance, financial survival and educational excellence.
I will bring my business and governance experience to the Board of Trustees, along with an understanding of diversity developed from living and working in several countries and cultures around the world.
