Sports Awards 2012

SPORTS EXCELLENCE AWARDS DINNER
SPORTING CHAMPIONS 2012

The Annual Sports Dinner at Whangaparaoa College brought a good deal of excitement  as we honoured the learners who had achieved in sport during 2012.

The event began with a passionate Haka by Erueti Tutaki and a couple of beautiful Waiate by Erueti and his wife Freda that welcomed the guests into the beautifully decorated Gymnasium.  Our guest speaker for the evening  was Olympic Kayaker Ben Fuohy and his speech gave the learners, staff and parents a wonderful  insight into being successful in sport.
Ben also handed out a record number of Merit and Blues Awards to the 38 awardees.

This year brought about a good deal of success in both the individual and team settings.  The netball team came 7th on the North Shore, the girls football 1st in their Auckland wide league and the 10 metre Pistol Shooting team won the NZ Championship. Meanwhile in individual events Racquel Sheath,  Rachel Smith, William Wallis and Joe Bailey all excelled.

We had the pleasure of watching a kick boxing  display by our internationally ranked kickboxers Ricki Byass and William Wallis.  It was a great event that showcased all that is good in sport and highlighted the pride we have in the successes that 2012 had brought.
