The review was held in May this year when the ERO team visited the school over seven days to examine the performance of the school and in particular issues relevant to the achievement of learners.
The review concentrated on the quality of education and the management of learner behaviour. These areas were chosen by ERO in discussion with the Board of Trustees of the college. The report speaks extremely positively about the progress with the development of the college. It states “There is a positive tone in most classes that supports the learning of all students” and learners “speak positively about what they are learning in most classes, how well they are achieving, and report that they are enjoying their learning.” The report states that the school is well run and “promotes learning as the core business of the college.”
Principal Brian O’Connell is delighted with the report. “The college has been through some challenging times over the last few years related to the slow development of the school property and facilities. It is great to see that the hard work of board members and staff has been rewarded. We are very pleased that ERO has recognised the very good teaching and learning that is occurring at the college despite these challenges.”
The ERO report is particularly positive about the behaviour of the learners in the school which allows the “focus to be on learning rather than behaviour”.
With this excellent review completed the college will continue to develop a strong and demanding curriculum based on modern approaches to learning.
